ADL Hosts Panel: Remembering August 3rd: Memory, Trauma & Extremism
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is organizing an event to reflect on the 5th anniversary of the tragic events of August 3rd, 2019, and commemorate the lives lost in the Walmart terrorist attack. Titled “Remembering August 3rd: Memory, Trauma & Extremism,” this critical discussion aims to honor the victims and delve into the profound impact of extremism on the border community.
Moderated by Robert Holguin, the panel discussion will feature experts and community leaders who will discuss the ongoing effects of the attack, the impact of extremism, and the community’s journey towards healing and resilience. Panelists include Dena Marks, law enforcement liaison for ADL Southwest for over 25 years, Bob Moore, President & CEO of El Paso Matters, and Elizabeth Robles, a licensed trauma and grief therapist. Peter Svarzbein, former El Paso Mayor Pro Tempore and current Community Engagement Manager for ADL in El Paso, emphasizes the significance of this event: “Almost 5 years after that tragic day of hate, it is important to remind ourselves and delve deeply into why this terrorist attack occurred in El Paso and what we can do to prevent such an event from occurring again.”
