Think outside the box this Halloween and create a one-of-a-kind costume that will be the envy of the office! Downtown is home to wide variety of boutiques, shops and thrift stores where you’ll find the ideal garb for your costume. We scoured Downtown shops and have put together 4 hit costumes you can create on your own with a little help from these locally owned stores:
Dress up as Mexico’s iconic artist, Frida Kahlo, with a quick stop at Union Plaza’s Nuhda boutique. Find a large selection of Mexican embroidered blouses, gold necklaces to layer and long chals/coverups. Did you miss Nuhda’s paper flower making class, a few weeks ago? In case you did, here’s a quick tutorial on how to make paper flowers to top your Frida Kahlo costume! Don’t forget to grab that eyebrow pencil and fill in a uni-brow.
Get a little creative and pay homage to the incredible David Bowie this Halloween. You can hunt your way through thrift stores trying to find the perfect colorful outfit, but we recommend throwing it back to the 70s with a classic jumpsuit from Downtown’s Drea Veintidos, across from San Jacinto Plaza and pairing it with his iconic face makeup. Don’t panic, here’s a makeup tutorial you can recreate at home.
It wouldn’t be Halloween without a villain costume! For most El Pasoans putting together a “Señor De Los Cielos” costume would mean shopping inside their own closet, but for those who wouldn’t mind an excuse for new “charro” clothes shop at Starr Western Wear. The store features authentic, good quality leather boots, belts, buckles, denim and even Rafael Amaya’s shirts, the man who plays Aurelio Casillas, El Señor De Los Cielos himself. That’s a Halloween costume you want to re-wear throughout the year. Monica Robles not included (great couple villain costume).
Office appropriate and fun! Dress up as one of America’s favorite sweets for Halloween – a milkshake! For this costume a visit to Downtown’s craft store, S & H Crafts is necessary. Find all the supplies you need at the locally owned shop in Downtown. Grab a pink dress from your closet or at one of these Downtown shops. Check out this simple tutorial.
