There are times when an energy is palpable. It is an energy generated by hopes and dreams made manifest by people with a genuine passion for what they do.
The Pizza Joint, with a successful first location on Mesa street will open a second location on 500 N. Stanton street in downtown El Paso, this Friday, November 7. Owner, Melissa Maese contemplated the future when deciding to open the downtown location, “I wanted more options and inquired about the location almost a year and a half ago but it wasn’t time. While thinking about the future of the business, I felt downtown was a great fit!”
The time must feel right now, but it wasn’t always a solid road for Melissa, “I was laid off from my job a few years ago and I had an opportunity to do something else,” she said.
“During those days, my friends and I went to UTEP and really wanted pizza by the slice in the late night hours. We used to search and search, so ultimately on Saint Patrick’s Day in 2011 after a lot of work, I opened The Pizza Joint with a partner,” said Melissa.
Miklos Girts, the other half of this team has been there for the entire journey. “We love downtown so much and want to contribute to its growth,” he said.
A vital and charming component to any urban center is walkability, “Adding to the downtown vibe, we are going to have a pizza window,” Miklos said.
The location sits on the corner of Franklin and Stanton, near what most refer to as “Pride Square,” a hub of bars on the Stanton side with an international restaurant, craft beer bar and the historic Gardner hotel on the other. A sector of downtown that may quickly become an, eat- drink- sleep destination for recreation seeking El Pasoans.
Melissa told us the property owner, Joe Nebham, shared in the excitement of the new business, “Joe, the landlord was great to work with, he felt like an actual person and he was thrilled for us!”
The Pizza Joint will have late night extended hours of operation as well as offer downtown delivery.
The grand opening will take place Friday, November 7, with art installations and music by Praying Mammoth and Ware DJs from 6pm to 4am.
