Summer is the height of the events season in Downtown El Paso (DTEP), and as we wind down the summer season, there are still a handful of events you won’t want to miss. Some as soon as this weekend! Let’s run down the list of DTEP events to save the date for!
Mexican Food Cook-Off! (This Saturday!) September 10, 2016 – San Jacinto Plaza
Presented by Metro PCS, and happening this weekend – this year’s cook-off is now in San Jacinto Plaza!
Annual cook-off where competitors from around the region compete for the best chef in El Paso title. Mexican food from over 20 local vendors can be purchased using the Mexican Food Cook-Off tokens that are sold in $2 increments.
Expect live loteria, the battle of the rock and roll mariachis, folklorico performances, and more! The Chuco Art competition is new this year, and will feature local artists creating art on the spot!
Admission is $3 per person or you can stop by any Metro PCS store and pick up a Free Admission Pass!

Pokemon Catch’em All – Friday, September 16, 2016 6pm – 11pm
Pokemon blew up and if there’s a ground-zero in El Paso, then downtown is IT! There are more Pokemon in DTEP than anywhere else in the city (so we’re told).
The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a number of events from now through the fall, with prizes and giveaways, including Pokémon team hats. Music, games, and charging stations are also provided during the events!
Way Out West Fest – Saturday, September 17, 2016
El Paso’s first country music festival is being held in DTEP at Southwest University Park. Headliners Clay Walker, Parmalee, and Brandy Clark will perform.
The event will feature a Chili Challenge, The Quest For The Best Margarita Competition, live music and a dance floor!

Mother of Pearl Block Party – Saturday, September 17, 2016
Block party. That says it all. Food, drinks, and live music by Juvenile, Dam-funK, Cloud Nothings, The Chamanas, and more, all in the beautiful Union Plaza District of DTEP.

The Morning After Champagne Brunch – Sunday, September 18, 2016
Not much of a description to be found on this event, but it’s definitely more than just a brunch. Besides the food, there is non-stop music and drink. Imagine if you partied all night on Saturday, and took a nap, then started again on Sunday morning. Find that party in Union Plaza.

Chalk the Block – October 14-16, 2016
One of the largest FREE three-day public arts festivals in the Southwest continues in its 9th year. Hundreds of local, national, and international artists, share their talents in both live and exhibited art in DTEP. Live music and food vendors make this event very family friendly.
