Ever experienced this? You’re downtown, doing what you do downtown (court business, lunch, banking, etc.) when you realize that you need to go feed the meter! Parking can be a hot-button topic for a lot of El Pasoans. Well, the City of El Paso International Bridges department has worked hard to help alleviate the inconveniences of parking at a meter in Downtown El Paso (DTEP).
“Providing convenience to our customers and making their parking experience downtown a non-event is crucial to satisfied parkers and increased business for our downtown businesses,” said Paul Stresow, Assistant Director of International Bridges for the City of El Paso.
The “Pay by Cell” application was developed by Park X in conjunction with meter providers, Duncan Solutions for the City of El Paso. The app called “Park El Paso” available on your Android or Apple device has been live since July 20th.
Parking meters labeled “Park El Paso” will indicate a meter programmed for the app. After downloading the App, it’s as simple as entering a zone, the spot number on the meter and the desired duration. What’s even better is that you can renew the parking meter time from your smart phone without ever having to run out to your meter!
Approximately 1,900 meter have been programmed with Park El Paso app in the downtown area.
“The response from the public has been overwhelmingly positive. During implementation several people were seen fumbling for quarters and were educated on the new app, they downloaded it to their phones and were happy about the added convenience,” said Stresow.
