With a feel that is half Spencers, half Zazzle, but a distinctly local flavor and a boutique style, Manchot celebrates its second birthday at the storefront on Friday, October 3, at 6 p.m. Located at 518 W. San Antonio Ave. Suite D, in the trend-setting Union Plaza district of downtown El Paso, the party will include mimosas, cake, a D.J. and live painting by local artist JAM.
Under new ownership, the shop was opened by El Pasoan, Norma Barrera. New owners Chelsie Melendez and Carlos Rivas purchased the shop after Norma decided to sell for personal reasons. “She mentioned it to us after running into her coincidentally and officially made an offer shortly after that,” said Chelsie. Her partner Carlos immediately felt confident about making the investment, “I had to take some time to consider it before eventually saying, ‘Yes.’ ” said Chelsie.
“We decided to adopt the Manchot, not only for the business investment but because we would now be part of the downtown movement,” she said.
Chelsie and Carlos took over the shop in July and chose to celebrate the birthday for multiple reasons. “We felt that celebrating was an opportunity to remind people that the shop was still here as well as an opportunity to introduce ourselves to our customers, neighbors and supporters as the new owners,” said Chelsie.
“We feel strongly about the local business community. We carry local merchandise from El Paso businesses like OSAPLE and that’s what sets us apart from bigger novelty shops online or in town,” she said.
In addition to the treats, music and live art by JAM, the Dream Chasers Club is unveiling a newly designed tee.
The event is open to the public with 10% off all novelty items. Downtown parking is free after 6 p.m.
