This week we spoke with Rosa Marin, the owner of Zona Centro Mexican Eatery newly located inside Church Bar in Downtown El Paso. Zona Centro serves delicious Mexican cuisine along with tasty vegan friendly dishes and desserts. Marin shared with us their recent efforts to help feed local health workers during this trying time.
Just last week, Zona Centro along with Church Bar delivered meals to staff at the Sun City Emergency Room East and Westside locations through their collaboration with Comfort Catering a local non-profit organization. Comfort Catering’s mission is to help support local restaurants and keep them operational while helping to feed medical workers at the frontline. Marin said, that when Comfort Catering reached out, they were more than happy to help, “We told them yes, of course we would do this.”
Marin said that they provided a menu to the organization and “Tortas with a Jarritos beverage and kettle chips was what they selected and what we delivered to all the personnel and all the nurses at the locations.”
In addition to helping feed local healthcare workers, Zona Centro has also teamed up with Meals on Wheels for Those on Wheels. They have set up a GoFundMe to provide meal cards for local package drivers such as UPS, FedEx, the Postal Service and others. “After we have supplied enough meal cards for these ‘Super Drivers,’ we will then start with the companies that are based in El Paso,” said, Marin.
Marin shared that the businesses are eager to continue their efforts, “as long as we are needed, we will be here for our community and if anybody else reaches out to us we will definitely help out.”
Zona Centro and Church Bar are also offering delivery and curbside pick-up for the entire community. They are open Monday-Friday from 11 am- 9 pm. You can call 915-745-8603 to place your order or through the Uber Eats app.
