SUMMARY:Kids Table: Amaranth Food of the Gods
DESCRIPTION:This free event invites youth ages 5 to 18 to celebrate and explore Día de los Muertos through the ancestral grain of amaranth. Led by artist and culture bearer Ome Tlaloc\, participants will create their own no-bake amaranth bars while learning about the cultural\, spiritual\, and culinary significance of this ancient grain. Native to Central and South America\, amaranth grows throughout the Paso del Norte region but is often regarded as a weed. Despite its importance to Indigenous cultures for thousands of years\, Spanish colonizers discouraged its use due to its role in religious ceremonies\, which they viewed as a challenge to the spread of Catholicism. \nParticipation is on a first-come\, first-served basis\, and all participants must be accompanied by an adult during the workshop.

SUMMARY:Taller de Altares
DESCRIPTION:The El Paso Museum of History invites you to a special workshop where participants can create their own altar elements while exploring the rich history of altars from their Indigenous origins to the present day. Tickets are $16 for museum members and $20 for non-members. Each ticket includes a cantarito to paint and decorate\, materials to craft conical incense\, and non-alcoholic refreshments. The event will begin with a brief talk by EPMH Director Erica Marin\, who will discuss the cultural evolution of altars throughout history.
