Artspace is a partnership between the City of El Paso, the El Paso Community Foundation, and the Minneapolis-based nonprofit, Artspace Projects, to grow and cultivate artists – from sculptors to poets, writers, visual artists, and musicians – through a new housing development downtown. Housing eligibility requires that potential residents create art for a living and meet federal income requirements. Artspace supports the continued professional growth of artists, and enhances the cultural and economic vitality of the surrounding communities and seeks to do the same for Downtown El Paso with a new development at 601 N. Oregon. It will contain 50 to 79 live & work units for artists and their families and will incorporate multi-purpose space for non-profits in the design. The project should be completed in 2014.
