The El Paso Museum of Art will host a new Jake Erlich Exhibit from June 10, 2012, until September 30, 2012. The opening will be from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. on June 10.
El Paso born artist Jake Erlich (1906-1952) was and is more widley known for being the tallest man in the world than for being one of the first El Paso artists to paint in a modern, expressionist style, but this exhibition seeks to demonstrate that Erlich’s painting might have a longer-lasting renown than the artist’s eight foot frame.
Mr. Erlich was mostly self-taught and studied for a short time with Hari Kidd, from whom he learned a modern aesthetic of using bold coloration in his paintings that depict life as a part of a traveling circus during the Depression years.
11 introspective oil on canvas paintings by Erlich will be on view.
