 ecord of the Deconstruction of the ASARCO Smelter\,&#8221\; the El Paso Mu
 seum of History is pleased to present Ron Leiman who will give an illustra
 ted lecture on\, &#8220\;Copper: El Paso and the Southwest.&#8221\; The le
 cture will take place in the exhibit&#8217\;s Orientation Theater on Thurs
 day evening\, June 7\, 2012\, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The program is free a
 nd open to all.</p>\n<p>Of the five &#8220\;c&#8217\;s&#8221\; credited wi
 th the economic development of El Paso\, none were as high profile as copp
 er. This presentation will include information on the ASARCO\, Federal and
  International Copper Smelters and the Phelps Dodge Copper Refinery in El 
 Paso\, Texas. Copper mines\, other smelters\, refineries and rod and wire 
 companies will be discussed along with the railroad connections that made 
 El Paso a key hub in the copper industry in the 20th century. A discussion
  on what the future may hold for the remaining buildings and smokestacks a
 t the site will take place with audience participation welcome.</p>\n<p><s
